Mechanical Properties
The mechanical properties, such as tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, hardness, and density, are a few of the properties that help you understand the strengths of both aluminum alloys.
The strengths of these two alloys are quite different. 7075 has strength almost double than that of 6082.
The density of both alloys is good, with almost the same elongation. However, there is a difference in the hardness of the two alloys.

Corrosion Resistance
6082 Aluminum

The Aluminum 7075 is not as good as 6082 when it comes to resistance against corrosion. It is mostly used when coated with aluminum layers.

Weldability
6082 Aluminum
Aluminum 6082 is weldable and offers greater ease while building large structures. MIG, TIG, and MMA techniques are used to weld the alloy.
7075 Aluminum
Aluminum 7075 is not weldable. It is prone to cracking if welded, so the strength of the alloy also decreases. So, it is better not to use aluminum 7075 in applications where welding is required.
Heat Treatment
Both aluminum 6082 and 7075 alloys respond well to heat treatments. Heat treatment is performed to change the mechanical properties of the alloys, usually to provide good strength and agility.
6082 Aluminum
6082 is heat treatable and attains better strength after the treatment. However, even after achieving the maximum strength after the heat treatment, the strength doesn’t match aluminum 7075.
7075 Aluminum
Heat treatment for aluminum 7075 provides peak strength and shows improvement against corrosion. It is a better option to have for high-strength applications.

7075 is not commonly used. It is only available for specific super-high-strength applications.
