The passage of 7005 aluminum through a die under pressure creates 7005 aluminum extrusions. The die opening can be designed to form different sizes and profiles according to the user’s requirements. Most popular 7005 aluminum extrusions include 7005 aluminum rods, 7005 aluminum tubes, and 7005 aluminum bars. Others are 7005 aluminum channels, 7005 aluminum angles, as well as custom 7005 aluminum extrusion profiles.
7005 aluminum alloy belongs to a group of medium-high strength aluminum alloys, Al-Zn-Mg, meaning that the alloy mainly contains aluminum, zinc, and magnesium. The principle hardening element of this alloy, whose density is 2.6-2.8 g/cm3, is Zinc. With the addition of a smaller percentage of magnesium, the resulting aluminum alloy is heat-treatable and strong. 7005 aluminum alloy is easy to weld, a characteristic that makes the material require very minimal heat treatment.
The Aluminum Association (AA) came up with the 7005 designation, but the alloy has other names. For instance, it is referred to as EN AW-7005 by European codes or A97005 in the European number designations.
